If it is to be used in conjunction there are at least 2 other options already in the marketplace that actually work quite well with substantially more functionality. HyperSpace and Splashtop are both virtually instantly on and at this point are probably the closest thing to what Google is attempting to achieve.
Said,Although I think it is awesome that I could run W7 on a netbook this beg the following question: Why would I want a full fledged OS on a netbook? The very nature of a netbook is not to be a do-it-all machine but just to be able to do the basics, which is mostly online stuff. Being able to boot a netbook in 7 seconds (and improving – Chrome OS) vs +1min (W7) makes Chrome OS a very attractive option for netbooks.
I think and it is obvious that the average user is doing stuff online more and more everyday, full blown OSs and desktop applications are not necessarily going to disappear but they are going to be less necessary and only used in tasks that require a lot of computing power like work stuff…
Netbooks are not supposed to be your main machine and if I ever own one I would use it just to get online, with that said I don’t think I would need a big OS like W7.

I have been using multiple operating systems on my netbook lately in preparation for a post about the best OS’s for Netbooks. At first I thought that Chromium would be a good idea because of how minimal it is. But in practice it did not even come close to a good experience.
Netbooks have a couple of basic uses, most of which is to surf the Internet. Where it fails is that the operating system is 100% dependent on the Internet. Assuming you are using your netbook on the plane, you could only use it on airlines that provide in-flight wifi.
If the purpose is to be in addition to Windows XP or 7 or even Ubuntu then it is still not giving us anything better than what we have in HyperSpace
For those that are looking to find a really good netbook operating system, I suggest using Moblin 2. It is a fantastic operating system that actually understands what a Netbook is supposed to be.
