Windows 3.1 on a cell phone is nice start but now we can add a full Linux Desktop OS to the list of operating systems installed to cell phones. Ghostwalker at Android Fanatic has managed to install X11 on his Google Android phone and even includes full instructions on how you can do it. The Windows OS versions needed an emulated environment to allow them to run Ghostwalker was able to get x11 fully installed without emulating another environment.
Google Android is based on Linux but is so heavily modified that it is quite a big jump to a desktop version of it. There are not a lot of details yet as to how it performs or if they can access the phone components but maybe we can get some more details in a few days.
This is a pretty cool little mod to a phone and I am sure it is not the last of them we will see.
