The Conficker/Downadup worm has proven to be a pretty nasty one that is difficult to remove due to it’s auto-update capability.  Manually removing it can be difficult even if you are using a standard anti-virus.  Thankfully there is now a pretty good removal tool for it that is made by BitDefender.

You can download the removal tool directly from BitDefender.  This tool removes all currently known versions of the worm and will be updated as new versions come out.  Currently this is the only removal tool that takes care of all known variants.

UPDATE: There is currently only one site that you can download the tool from if you are on an infected machine, http://www.downadup.org.  Thanks for @bitdefender for pointing this out.
