Why hasn’t Apple released a Netbook?

I started asking myself that question after posting about Microsofts job cuts in which it is rumored to be due to the undercutting of the competition.  And they have had a really big last quarter with plenty of profits.  But why hasn’t Apple gotten in to the market right now when it is one of the few markets really growing?

The MacBook Air is thin and easy to carry but it really can’t qualify for the Netbook category.  Apple is clearly doing a lot of research on thin light laptops so why not a Netbook?  If they are concerned about price is it that they don’t think they can get it in to the average price range of a Netbook?

Sony recently announced their version of a Netbook (even though they claim it’s not one) which is more like a small laptop for $900.  If even Sony is not afraid to make a Netbook and slap a big price tag on it then why would Apple be?
