Remember Walmart’s $199 PC that was all over the news a year ago? The operating system loaded on to this low-cost wonder was called gOS and it is now coming in to a new level of maturity. This week they released their 3rd iteration of the gOS and announced at CES a new cloud operating system for Netbooks. The cloud OS has a very creative name “Cloud” which basically means it is loading from the Internet. gOS received a lot of attention and was even labeled as “Google OS” due to it’s dedication to Google products. The real name of gOS is “Good Operating System” which kind of makes it sound like they were not aiming too high when they decided to make it. Maybe something like “Great OS” would be better.
Operating systems like this are going to be come increasingly popular as Netbooks get in to the hands of more people. It is an easy way for computer manufactures to sell computers cheaper with lighter system requirements. While reviews of the gOS Cloud are still coming in as it is debuted at CES, I will have a full review of the 3rd iteration of gOS in the next couple of days.
