I looks like much of the Microsoft woes are due to their success in the Netbook market. Mary-Jo Foley at ZDNet has a really good post regarding the Microsoft lay-offs that are occurring. 5,000 people will be losing their jobs so Microsoft can keep their numbers looking good. If they had just played fair maybe this wouldn’t be happening in the first place?
As I talked about in my post regarding the CEO of Canonical’s comments, Microsoft was selling Windows XP for the rumored price of $5 a license. Well it looks like someones decision to do this has resulted in an 11% decrease in the profits. They have larger market saturation but at the sacrifice of profits and peoples jobs.
She also calls out that Microsoft spent a large amount of money on some of it’s advertising campaigns one of which is the “Windows Without Walls” at $300,000,000. I wonder how much they have spent to try and convince people that Windows Vista doesn’t suck.
